How to Reach More Addicted People

August 11, 2009

We had a great class in Rockford recently 14 first time visitors. Several of them were husband and wife. We had everything from a one or two rescue mission folks to a man that was a millionaire. Most of the ones in the class were functioning addicts if not all of them. I have seen the advertising strategy work that Bro. Curington uses. I have list a few pointers that may help you revitalize the number of visitors that visit your chapter. The main advice I can give to you is get a plan and work that plan. Everything under the sun will keep you from effectively getting the word out about the local chapter meeting. I suggest you get a calendar and the battle is on strategy we teach and schedule the events to get those things done for the entire your. Start with your banner, then the battle is one plan. Below are a few other proven methods that are being used.

  • Look for ways to give your church a “burden” for the addict (non-functioning and functioning) Do this by putting announcements and timely testimonies in the church bulletin.
  • Advertise in the paper under the free section
  • Advertise in other community papers
  • Send a mailing at least twice in the first year to all of your student database trying to get them to return. (i.e. Use a small news letter with news, testimonies, and new releases from RU.)
  • Advertise on the free cable, radio channels, and TV community bulletin boards
  • Get your students and leaders to take RU tracts (7 in an envelope) each week and commit to passing them out
  • Send out letters to your Judges and Prosecuting Attorneys, letting them know you are up and operational and helping people.
  • Go to court with your students
  • Have an award ceremony on a Sunday night giving your students the ability to invite all the friends and loved ones they can to the event. Have special testimonies, songs, and awards that evening.
  • Consider having a one year anniversary event, as well as subsequent years, with Bro. Curington or Bro. Burks. Hold a banquet inviting key community leaders, attorneys, judges, etc. We will also give advanced training to your workers.
  • Talk to the Pastor about ideas for recruiting new workers as needed.
  • Look for “fringe” people visiting your church that may flourish in an RU setting.
  • Repeat the “Battle is On” plan
  • Get your church people to buy a yard sign and put it out front. This will get the word out quickly in that neighborhood.
  • Use the magnetic signs, purchased from RU, on the church vans, personal vehicles, and buses
  • Have a poster contest for your class.
  • Attend the National Conference and bring as many of your leadership and students you can get to come. (You won’t be sorry!!)
  • Get as many of your students in uniform as possible. They will wear these on Friday and it will create conversations with others resulting in new students. I would do a new uniform group order form at least twice a year.
  • Get the ‘police arrest list’ from the news paper or court house and send out weekly letters to them making your program available.
  • Advertise on “Christian” Radio. You can even get this sponsored through a local business.
  • Use a double-sided banner if you have that capability.
  • Use the specific addiction tracts, fliers, mini posters, posters to have special emphasis months and get your people to help you target them in tactful ways. I would brain storm with your leadership to come up with a plan of attack
  • Get other churches to use the RU tracts in there racks. This will let them know about your program. I would offer these tracts twice a year.
  • Sign up several workers to stand in front of the county court house and pass out brochures to everyone coming and going.
  • Have a blitz using your church people and students to get posters and brochures in as many work break-rooms as possible.
  • Meet with large business personnel managers to offer your assistance. Particularly ask them if you can hang up posters, leave brochures for them to pass out to employees failing drug tests, attendance, etc.
  • Put up posters and brochures in every laundry facility available including large apartment complexes.
  • County fair booths have been profitable for some chapters.
  • Some hospitals will allow you to bring materials that the will give out to clients in for drug, alcohol problems.
  • Mail quarterly to all of your student data base trying to get them to return. Use a small newsletter with news, testimonies, and new releases from RU.
  • Look for secular and religious treatment programs and try to build a relationship with the leadership that will result in there students being allowed to attend your RU on Friday nights.
  • Some nursing homes have a section of people that would fit well in an RU setting. Be very careful not to get into something that would destroy your atmosphere.
  • Have a luncheon for personnel managers with testimonies from students, brief video, and other fillers that will encourage them to talk about your program to there employees.
  • Start satellite programs in your jails and prisons close by using the RU Satellite Curriculum.
  • Visit local construction companies on the job and pass out fliers.
  • Get students who go to secular treatment programs to pass out brochures after class outside to the students, promoting RU.
  • Get local daycare and preschool programs to allow you to come in and talk about drugs and alcohol, letting a student give a powerful testimony they could relate too. Give them brochures to send home to the parents.
  • Do the leg work to get onto college campuses and spread the word of your program.
  • Make sure your year one advertising in news papers, community ads, and other places are still in tact.

if you have other ideas that are working, please post them here and let see if we can help one another get more visitors in the local chapters.
