This is a personal invitation from Dr. Paul Kingsbury and me to you! You are invited to attend the 12^th annual RUI Adversity University. This year’s theme is one that is very personal to me: The Way is Agape: Learning to Live for an Audience of One.

This conference is an effort to elaborate on a current focus in my life for myself, my family, and my staff: for us to experience greater degrees of yielding to the agape love of our heavenly Father. I want God’s agape love both experienced by us and expressed to others by us with greater consistency. But what now drives my focus is a growing desire to see the same for the RU Nation, all RU sponsoring churches and their memberships, as well as the entire body of Christ globally, for the benefit of the whole world!

Early Worship Opportunities

You are welcome to join us on the Sunday prior to the conference! (September 26) Typically there is a Schools of Discipleship graduation on the Sunday following the conference, but this year we will have our graduation presentation on the Sunday evening preceding the conference. Everyone is invited to arrive early for this wonderful worship opportunity and kick-off service.

Early Bird check-in and registration will begin on Sunday afternoon, September 26, at 4:00 pm. It will resume on Monday, September 27^th, from 10:00 am through 6:30 pm.

School of Discipleship Alumni Dinner

This year, the Alumni of our Schools of Discipleship, as well as their chapter directors, family, and friends are invited to attend the 2010 Alumni Association Dinner to be held on Monday, September 27^th, at 4:00 pm at the Cliffbreakers Banquet Center just hours before the conference begins! All alumni can attend this banquet at no charge; others can attend this spectacular event for a very nominal fee. Join us this fine evening for a wonderfully chosen full-course dinner prepared at the exquisite Cliffbreakers of Rockford as we celebrate the transforming power of Christ! (This is a special time for all of our staff and former students to reunite at our biggest time of the year. We look forward to seeing you!)

This highlight event is an elegant meal and time of reflection as we observe the great things God is doing and is going to do as He turns the addicted back to God’s support group, the local church, through Reformers Unanimous. We are blessed again this year to have our keynote speaker is Dr. David Gibbs Jr. All guests coming to Rockford should plan to attend this event. Please choose ‘Yes’ on the registration option. This is important to help us prepare seating for the event.

To make it easier for you to invite more people from your chapter, we have decided to reduce the price of registration! The registration fee at only $79 per person remains one of the lowest priced conferences in America! This year, we will be providing transportation to the diverse nearby restaurants to enjoy meals for which the Midwest is known. We will also offer concession style food for those wanting to “lunch and munch” while remaining on site.

This year, we are releasing rooms for those seeking low-cost accommodations for men or for ladies in either our men or women’s dorms. How to Pray in the Spirit Part 4

Continuing in our series on How to pray in the Spirit Pauls says in Romans 8:26, “…but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Groaning which cannot be uttered-
In verse 26 the word groanings is the greek word, stenagmos which means heart murmurings. It is used in Acts 7:34, “…I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them.” As the Holy Spirit births prayer burdens in our heart we have a fervent desire to express these things eloquently in prayer in such a way as to be answered. However often we can’t put words to the burdens of our heart, and we really just groan in our spirit, but don’t feel as if we’re accomplishing much. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit takes the groanings of our heart and turns them into intelligible prayers that God answers.

There are many examples of men and women who were so burdened for something that they couldn’t do anything but groan in prayer, but God answered them. An Old Testament example of course would be Hannah, she was in so much agony, and groaning in prayer for a child that the priest thought she was drunk.

In more modern times the example of Daniel Nash is instructive. He was one of Charles Finney’s advance men, meaning he would enter a city several weeks or months before a meeting just to pray. Finney relates a story of His prayer,

“When I got to town to start a revival a lady contacted me who ran a boarding house. She said, “Brother Finney, do you know a Father Nash? He and two other men have been at my boarding house for the last three days, but they haven’t eaten a bite of food. I opened the door and peeped in at them because I could hear them groaning, and I saw them down on their faces. They have been this way for three days, lying prostrate on the floor and groaning. I thought something awful must have happened to them. I was afraid to go in and I didn’t know what to do. Would you please come see about them?” “No it isn’t necessary,” I replied. “They just have a spirit of travail in prayer.”

In his travail for souls, like a woman in labor, all that Daniel Nash could do was groan. It is interesting to note that after Nash died, Finney stopped holding meetings, and took a church the groaning prayer warrior that had helped bring thousands to Christ through his meetings was dead.

According to the will of God- The Bibles says in verse 27, “…he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” What this means is that the Holy Spirit and God the father our in constant communion. The Holy Spirit takes our feeble prayers which have an inability to produce results, and turns them into prayers that are according to the will of God. Why is this important you ask?

1 John 5:14-15 explains, “…this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” Quite simply put the prayer that is according to God’s will is the prayer that He answers. So how do we know the will of God? Two ways, the Word of God, and the Spirit of God. This is why it is so essential to pray the word of God. When we claim one of the 7,000 promises of the Word of God in prayer, we are praying the will of God.

Likewise it is just as essential to incorporate the Spirit of God in prayer. Because He is God, He obviously knows what His will is. So instead of bringing the same prayer list you have been praying over for twenty years. Start asking God what should I pray for? When you pray for what He tells you, you will always have your prayer answered because it is the will of God. So now that we have seen the many benefits of praying in the Spirit, lets start doing it the results will be amazing.

How To Experience Revival: Unity That Brings Revival

Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in
unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard,
even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of
Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the
LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

In the 20th century the ecumenical movement started from a felt need of the lack of the
Church’s influence in the world. There is today a cry for unity in religion. We see prayer services where those of a Catholic or Protestant faith can lift up prayers to God along with those of an Islamic faith or Buddhist faith. The general thought is that if we can break down doctrinal barriers than this world would be a much better place.

What the world needs is not a lot of indiscriminate unification but for the Church to
return to her apostolic roots. The verse above states that it is pleasant when brethren
dwell together in unity. Then the verse gives very picturesque types of the Holy Spirit. If the Church was ever a major influence in the world it was because she had God on her side. In the beginning of the Church we can clearly see what unified it and made it a force to be reckoned with.

In Acts 2, we find the Church in a state of revival and unity. However, what was the
unifying factor for them? It seems from the book of Acts that there unity as brethren was attributable to five things. In Acts 2:1 we see that they are united by prayer that brought them in one accord to one place. This is a great reason the Church has no power because they quit praying. The Bible plainly says when two or more are gathered that God is in the middle of us. I fear we have seen over and over what man is capable of accomplishing where the church is not unified, absorbed in prayer. The second unifying factor for the early church is a common salvation experience. Joining hands with other faiths will not accomplish anything in this world! God will only send revival to those that have received the word gladly and asked for Jesus Christ’s forgiveness.

Next, we see that the Church continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine. We cannot
have unity with those that don’t share a common belief in the fundamentals of the faith.

The unity of this Church was brought about by a simple belief and obedience in the
teaching Jesus gave to the Apostles. Unity was also promoted in the Church by
fellowship, fellowship comes from the Greek word koinonia, and gives the picture of a
partnership. These believer brought together by the common experience of salvation and
a common doctrinal foundation now found that they had a common mission–to serve
others and share the Gospel with the world. The Church has all but forgotten our common
mission to take the Gospel to the world, and so the message rarely reaches outside the
walls of the Church.

Breaking bread together is another key feature of the early Church’s unity. How often
does the Church of today break bread together? We are so busy, so involved in our own
business and family activities that we rarely get together to share a meal with fellow
believers. We only have surface relationships with others believers but Christ gave us the Church so we can edify one another how can we do that till we get to know people where they live. The last thing that brought unity was that they had all things common. They were genuinely concerned with the physical needs of other believers and were willing to do without or sell their own possessions so everyone could have material needs met.

What we call unity today is a poor substitute for the true brotherhood of the first century church. We will never again have apostolic power till we have reclaimed apostolic living and unity. Their existence was so simple they were obeying the teachings of Jesus with no reservation. If we had their unity, we would have their power. We would have revival.
