Reaching Addicts Through the Police Blotter

Many communities publish a police report in the newspaper that shows who got arrested, the reason the got arrested, and their address. What an opportunity to direct market RU!

My county paper even puts this on their internet webpage so I can download it. I can sent out 40 invitations to RU in about 15-20 minutes. I use Word to print merge. I use Endicia.com to print the postage while I am Word merging. Endicia also verifies the address, so it saves me 6-7 return to sender a week.

Sample Letter

Dear Neighbor,

A supporter of Reformers Unanimous gave us your name and address after reading about an incident in one of the local papers. We do not wish to criticize, judge or embarrass you in any way. We instead want to offer you our support and help.

Reformers Unanimous is a Christ centered behavior modification program that assists people looking for help in many areas of their lives. Reformers Unanimous is an international program with over 300 chapters worldwide. Our local chapter meets every Friday evening at 7 PM at Granite Baptist Church in Glen Burnie. Our students and leaders come from a wide variety of backgrounds. If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to call the number on the other side of this letter.

If this letter happened to reach you by mistake, or if you are simply not interested in this program, then please disregard. We are sincerely trying to reach individuals and families in our community who need help.

RU is a faith based, Bible centered addictions program that is seeing unparalleled success in helping folks change their life for the good. Currently there are over 250 chapters internationally and this number is growing rapidly. More than 80 percent of the students who complete this program are freed from their addictions.

Please understand I am not labeling you an addict because you experienced some trouble in your life. Addictions, stubborn habits or strongholds as our students often refer to them, come in all forms and in all lifestyles. No matter what the problem, our program bridges all the gaps. By weekly application and the study of God’s word, we are able to help rebuild lives and guide individuals back to a productive lifestyle, breaking free from whatever stronghold is holding them down or causing problems in their lives.

I can also tell you that the courts and probation departments look very favorably on those attending our program. They see someone making an effort to make positive changes in their life. We are happy to help in those situations by writing letters or supporting you in court appearances.

We have meetings each Friday night 7pm-9pm in the Milford Christian Academy at 1367 Woodville Pike in Milford. I hope you will take a few moments to review the enclosed brochure it provides more details about our program. If you come you will find friendly, caring people eager to help you.

Strongholds come in all forms and in all lifestyles drugs, alcohol, tobacco, eating disorders, domestic violence/relationship issues, gambling, porn, etc. We may not even think of them as addictions. You can label it whatever you want the fact is many of these behaviors lead to problems in our lives. The Reformers Unanimous program improves behavior leading to a happier and more fulfilled life.

RU is a faith based, Bible centered behavior modification program that is seeing unparalleled success in helping folks change their life for the good. I know the brochure says addictions, please don’t get hung up on that. It is for any behavior that is causing problems in your life whether that behavior is considered an addiction, or not. That brochure does do a good job of describing the program, so I wanted to included it for you.

I setup a trial account this weekend. This allows me to print the postage at the same time I print the envelope. It was very easy to import my addresses into an address book and print them all.

One really nice feature, it checks addresses. I used to get about 10% of my letters returned due to a bad or incomplete address. This program checks the address. That alone will save me enough postage to pay for the $9 monthly fee.

I had 3 people in RU now due to the letters. Praise the Lord!
